An Elegant Autumn Masquerade

An Elegant Autumn Masquerade

Real Wedding

Southern California natives Kelly and Luke met when they were both at university. Kelly was the director for a 24-hour "Ed Wood" Film Contest at USC and Luke had agreed to be in a film. They hit it off, and the rest is history.

Luke knew Kelly was the one for him when Jimi Hendrix's "The Wind Cries Mary" came on the radio during a spontaneous moment of dancing at his place - the lyrics told him all he needed to know. He proposed to Kelly the morning after a wonderful night at the Hollywood Bowl, where they watched Holst's The Planets set to NASA footage.

The couple got married at the Spanish Oaks Ranch a gorgeous, sprawling estate near Kelly's hometown. When they tried to book the venue, the only Saturday available for everyone was Halloween, which also happened to be their favorite fun holiday. The couple didn't want to have a costumed wedding - so they turned it into masquerade!

The wedding was a DIY affair with everyone helping in their own way. Kelly created the myriad paper flowers used in the centerpieces and Luke handmade the masks that more than 100 guests wore. Their first dance was to "Midnight and the Stars and You," an old romance song featured in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. They finished off the evening with a three-tier cake with two layers of rainbow-sprinkle almond cake with raspberry and one layer of lemon cake with a delicious lemon filling.
