Tell us a bit about your love story

My best friend from college, Tanner, and Brett's best friend from childhood, Tyler, are brothers. When I moved to D.C. in 2010, Tyler moved to D.C. at the same time and we became great friends too. Brett was in Budapest teaching yoga and looking for his next adventure, so, at Tyler's urging, he moved to D.C. in January 2012. At first, we were just friends -- I thought he was cute but too short for me. And apparently Brett thought I was cute but too tall for him. But we moved past that once we realized how much fun we had together! We started dating in April 2012. In March 2015, we moved to Colorado together -- so that Brett could change careers and because it was somewhere I'd always wanted to live.

We got engaged in August 2015 after climbing to the top of Mount Crested Butte. I wanted a picture to celebrate our athletic achievement. We settled in on the natural picture-taking spot — a couple of large rocks — and I wanted to just selfie, but Brett asked some nice lady to take our photo. As soon as she got my phone, he started complaining about a rock in his butt. I didn't want to take up any more of the lady's time, so I was like "Sit down so we can get this pic!!!" But instead he got down on one knee and proposed. I was shocked! Partially because I was a little winded and partially because I had decreed we couldn't get engaged on our weekend getaway since I had planned it. But Brett outsmarted me by re-planning it behind my back -- the proposal, champagne and flowers waiting in our room, and dinner plans that evening. The surprise aspect was amazing, and the rock-in-his-butt moment? Well that was just very us.

What made your wedding day special?

Brett and I wrote our own vows and didn't share them with each other before the ceremony, and we were both so in love with the other's vows when we heard them. We also wrote parts of the ceremony ourselves, and then our good friends Layne and Joe, who officiated, wrote the rest. The ceremony truly was the most special part of the day. It was very tailored to us with lots of love and lots of fun throughout. Plus, my parents had both been seriously injured the year before our wedding, so it meant so, so much to me that they were both able to walk me down the aisle. We also felt incredibly lucky that almost everyone we invited was able to attend -- no small feat considering all but a handful of guests were from out of state.

Did you have any family wedding traditions you included in your day?

I wore a ring of my grandmother's, and my mom sewed pearls from her veil into my hairpiece. I loved walking down the aisle wearing items of such significance to the women in my family.

How did you choose your venue?

Brett and I are both originally from the Midwest but quickly fell in love with Colorado after moving here in March 2015. We got engaged at the top of a Colorado mountain in August 2015 and decided we wanted to bring all our friends and family to our beautiful new home state for our big day. We chose to get married at a 1914 mansion in the foothills outside Denver because it showcased gorgeous Colorado and looked like the perfect place to host a fantastic party.

Tell Us About Your GenTux Experience:

The vibe for our wedding was vintage glam, so tuxes were a must. We shopped around for a bit and then Brett chose Generation Tux because all eight of Brett's groomsmen, plus my best man, are scattered around the country -- New York, D.C., Kansas City, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Chicago and Wichita. We wanted to make the tux-renting experience easy for them.

The online system made things really easy, and it was nice that we didn't have to worry about finding stores located near all the members of our far-flung wedding party. Generation Tux led to less stress for us and more convenience for our wedding party. It was also really easy for us to check up on whether our guys had followed through on getting measured and on ordering!
As you can see from the pictures, all of the guys looked fabulous in their tuxes! The GenTux tuxes really helped us execute that exact vibe we were going for -- I'll always be glad we chose tuxes. Of course, Brett was the most handsome!
